Electricity in Ghana- Essential to Development?
An editorial piece from Ghana argues that in order to meet the Millennial Development Goals the rolling power outages in the country must be stopped.
Most Intercordians experienced a power outage during their placements. In my Ecuadorian bedroom, the light stopped working for a few days. I had to work hard to convince my family that it was not working. Fixing the problem involved all of the men in the family climbing into the attic of the house.
I know that other Intercordians experienced more dramatic black-outs that lasted for longer periods. This editorial piece from Ghana argues that in order to meet the Millennial Development Goals the rolling power outages in the country must be stopped because:
“With a constant supply of electricity, small and medium enterprises could produce at optimum levels, meet cost of production, earn income and possibly pay salaries to workers who will ultimately use the money for day-to-day needs”.
