“Madam, a surprise!”

I had a really frustrating morning in class this morning.

The grade 8 class is always quite rambunctious, and “too cool for school” as most grade 8s are, haha, but usually I have lots of energy to deal with it and have fun with them, laughing at their shananigans, and making use of their talkativeness to get them answering questions and involved in the class. For some reason though this morning they seemed extra snotty and I just wasn’t in the frame of mind to deal with it, so by the end of the class I just felt so frustrated and down. Just as I was leaving the class, one of the students came running up to me with a black plastic bag in his hand and said, “Madam, a surprise!” He had brought me a bag full of bananas as a gift. (It is common for people to show their appreciation or friendship by giving gifts of food). It just warmed my heart right when I needed it!
