“It was in the village of El Guante that the life I knew was turned upside-down. My heart of stone, which was a souvenir of the society I came from, was turned into a heart of flesh. I saw that I was made for love and not strength. I was became more human, with all the necessary imperfections that doing so entailed, and I accepted it because I had never felt more alive and more connected to humanity. I became less afraid of my vulnerability because running from it had left me empty for so long. The unpredictability of life was no longer a fear of mine, since I saw that precisely because of its unpredictability it was valuable, it had worth and that things were more special when they did not last. If we can only bring ourselves to admit it, discovering that we are human can be a liberating experience.”

“Being” in Ecuador allowed me to be free from the burden of possessions, and immerse myself in the richness of the people, the culture and in absolute truths that are more valuable and precious then all the possessions in the world.  When you are free from the chains of possessions, the relationships you form become more meaningful and are enhanced with existence and purpose that is valuable.
