Through my experience with Intercordia I think I’ve realized exactly how important it is to be honest and open in new experiences. Not only towards others, but to yourself as well, because it is absolutely instrumental in accepting and embracing both the things and people you are faced with. Intercordia really has shown me the importance of maintaining and creating good, meaningful relationships.

The Intercordia Experience was meaningful for me, because it gave me the opportunity to challenge myself and test my limits. It is people that I shared laughs and emotions with. Those will be lifelong memories. Everyday I find new meaning in my experience in Ecuador and am challenged to live in a way that I learned from my placement with acceptance and understanding.

The Interecordia Experience was meaningful for me, because it allowed me to gain a new perspective and humility. This experience opened my eyes to the beauty of another culture and another people. I was able to stretch and grow in ways that I never imagined. I deepened my understanding of family.

Without Intercordia, I wouldn’t have had the chance to meet the amazing people I did. I learned so much about how to cultivate real human relationships, how to be more honest with myself and other people. I don’t think I would have had such an enriching learning experience without the guidance of the Intercordia staff, who prepared us spiritually and practically for our placements. I am committed to staying honest and having an open heart. Thank you, Intercordia.

The Intercordia Experience was meaningful for me, because I had the opportunity to experience a culture that was very different from Canada. To come from a country that has had peace for as long as Canada, and go to a country which was in a major war less than two decades ago was an indescribable experience. I also now have a family in Bosnia Herzegovina who will always be my family.

My Intercordia Experience was meaningful for me, because I was able to truly feel a sense of community through the people of my neighbourhood and most prominently through my host family. The bonds I established with people there where quite unique and unlike anything I have experienced before. Every day brought a new experience and each experience provided a lasting memory.

I’m glad to have had the opportunity to participate in Intercordia for many reasons. The biggest reason is for the opportunity to be stretched and challenged outside of my personal comfort zone. I’m thankful for the deep questions and unique experiences I was presented with that have caused me to grow a lot in my personal life and start viewing the world in a more open, loving and compassionate way.

I learned how to appreciate the simple things in life. i learned how to love unconditionally those who are different from me, while at the same time recognizing that all people are the same. I had the chance to meet 27 beautiful children, who will always have a most special place in my heart and who’s laughter and joy I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

To be with people - that’s what my summer was all about. People, who I couldn’t communicate with, people of great vulnerability, but with even greater hearts, people who are suffering. The Intercordia Exxperience showed me my own strengths & weaknesses in a way I’ve never seen any of them before & it made me realize more clearly how suffering, pain, anger & hurt can make one stronger, more settle, more understanding, more human.

The Intercordia Experience was meaningful for me, because it has made me more open minded, more tolerant and less judgemental of anything or anyone that is different from what I’m used to. It’s crazy how 3 months in Rwanda can affect me so much, but it really has changed me for the better and stretched my mind and it will never return to its original dimensions.

In Nicaragua I learned from the strong relationships I made living in both the rural community of La Garnacha and the city of Esteli. I am deeply appreciative to have learned about small scale farming and to have learned a new language to communicate with my new friends and family.

The Intercordia Experience was meaningful for me, because it gave me a new family. When we joined Intercordia, I was not expecting to fall so deeply in love. My host family became so real to me that leaving became unbearable. My fellow Intercordians only added to that family - as siblings who understood my highs, lows, proudest and most difficult memories. My life wouldn’t be complete without my new family - we were made for each other.
