Intercordia Founder, Jean Vanier, named Nation Builder of 2008 by The Globe and Mail

Annually, The Globe and Mail assembles a list of 50 nation builders - “people whose efforts have contributed materially, intellectually or simply in terms of national pride, to Canada’s sense of coming into its own.”  The list of nominees is created using an Ipsos-Reid national poll and the expertise of Globe writers in five fields - public life, arts, business, science and sports.  Then, with the aid of votes submitted by The Globe and Mail readers, one person is named “Nation Builder” of the year.

Former Nation Builders have included philanthropist Don Johnson, former NDP leader Ed Broadbent, and Olympic athlete Chantal Petitclerc.  The Globe and Mail featured an article on the life of Jean Vanier on December 27 honouring his title as Nation Builder 2008.
