Looking back at my time in Rwanda

My initial impression of my work placement was like “Oh boy this is hectic and it is going to be a really long three months at Wisdom School.” .... after these first couple weeks this all changed.

My initial impression of my work placement was like “Oh boy this is hectic and it is going to be a really long three months at Wisdom School.” The first couple of weeks were overwhelming, frustrating and tiring. I also came to the conclusion during this time that I really didn’t like kids, real great for a primary school teacher! However, after these first couple weeks this all changed. I started to really enjoy just being around the children. I learned their names and played and laughed and found out just how hilarious children can be. We got a schedule for teaching and things got a little less hectic and we got into a work groove. There were still times it was frustrating but overall my initial impressions of working at Wisdom changed completely from, “Wow, working at Wisdom School is going to be a long three months to, wow I cant believe we are done teaching already.”
Since entering the Intercordia program in Canada my perspectives and feelings haven’t changed. If ever I had any expectations of Africa or of my three month placement, my time in Rwanda lived up to all of them. I am very pleased with my three months. I have seen many things and feel very lucky to have been placed here and seen and experienced the things I have.
