What's New: The Excitement of welcoming Intercordians

Wilfrid Laurier Program

WELCOME STUDENTS AT WILFRID LAURIER/GLOBAL STUDIES PROGRAM!

We’re excited to offer the Intercordia Canada experience to YOU! The program at Laurier/Global Studies is in many ways similar to our traditional program and in a few ways significantly different. We hope you’ll take the time to move around our Web site, letting Intercordia participants share their experiences with you and learning more about the vision and philosophy behind Intercordia Canada.
You will find below the specifics about how the program is offerend at Laurier/Global Studies for the 2010/2011Program year.

    Academics:

The Intercordia Canada Program is accepted by the Laurier/Global Studies Dept. as a fulfillment of your Global Studies Experience, although the GSE committee, comprised of the GSE coordinator and two other GS faculty members, will review and approve individual field placement proposals.

3 Days of Intercordia Seminar Formation:

You will participate in a seminar formation program offered on the Laurier campus on three (3) Saturdays in November, February and March. A key part of the Intercordia program is the preparation we do together. These days are designed to introduce you to the vision and pedagogy of Intercordia, help you to reflect personally on your academic learning and to prepare you for the challenge of living in a foreign country. Part of the preparation is logistical, but the other part is helping you to develop a framework with which to live and work in another culture.

    6 Week International Placement:

You will spend six (6) weeks from early May to mid June living and working in an area of the world radically different from your present situation in either Ecuador or Honduras. You will live with a host family and work in a community-based organization. Both situations are primarily about creating opportunities for relationships with people who are culturally, materially or intellectually different than you and who are quite often living in vulnerable circumstances.
Our placements in Ecuador and Honduras offer the opportunity to be involved in health centres/clinics, schools, youth centres, nursing homes, workshops for the disabled, art programs and more. (Learn more and see pics at http://www.intercordiacanada.org/index.php/what-we-do/international-partners/)
During the winter we will work with you to select a placement opportunity that matches your field of study/interest.

    2 Day Reintegration Seminar:

Upon your return to Canada in mid June from your placement, you will attend a 2 day reintegration seminar to complete the program. This is an essential time to share your stories with other Intercordians, hear about their summer and begin the process of integrating your experience and readjusting to Canadian life.

    Cost:

The total cost of the program is $4,100.00 which includes the cost of the seminar formation and reintegration program and all costs associated with the six week placement including airfare, host family stay, partnership fee and insurance.
Intercordia staff will support you to do personal fundraising and all donations can be tax receipted by Intercordia.
