Pueblito
Pueblito Canada is an international development agency dedicated to improving the lives of children in Latin America. For almost 35 years Pueblito has been helping the children of Latin America by strengthening communities, safe-guarding rights, and providing the essentials for education, nutrition, and health. Working in partnership with local non-governmental organizations, Pueblito provides capacity building and financial assistance to develop culturally appropriate, innovative ECD programs that benefit children directly. Our programs involve and mobilize the family and community to ensure sustainability.
The Children´s Muralist Workshop program works in partnership with Pueblito and has functioned in Esteli since 1989. The intention is to provide children and young people a unique and alternative space in which they can develop their creativity. Their art; which expresses their ideas, thoughts and proposals, projected into the community by means of murals exhibits and consciousness raising campaigns, allows the children and young people to assume ownership of their history and to have an influence on society. The workshops are located in urban neighborhoods and rural communities in Esteli as well as with the young people incarcerated in the penitentiary and with children in the 5 markets in Managua. A fundamental policy of the Children´s Muralist Workshop is to involve parents and community in the process by means of art making.

Union de Cooperativas Agropecuarias
UCA Miraflor is a union of small agricultural co-operatives (Union de Cooperativas Agropecuarias) whose members farm on the Miraflor Nature Reserve, near Esteli. Their aim: sustainable livelihoods, compatible with the maintenance and improvement of the environment. Their main crops are coffee – organic and shade grown – vegetables, milk production and cattle. They have had reforestation and live fencing projects, and gender and youth activities. There is an orchid rescue scheme and a programme cultivating a local fungus that is a natural pesticide for coffee. They have been running an eco tourism program since the 1990’s.
